The Archos helmet cam is pretty neat, and does a decent job. It’s not awesome at capturing HD footage that is fast and/or dense in detail (such as tearassing around the woods in a buggy in the fall). It does however capture other thing pretty good.
One issue I have with it is that the cam is a battery vampire. And I mean it brutailizes battery life in a big way. I’ve watched full length movies (video playback) and the battery only dropped a bar or so. Using it on Saturday with the cam, it was drained in roughly an hour (captures ~20 min worth of usable video). Take into consideration the standard charge method take ~8 hours, and you can see this as a big drawback. I did get the DVR dock, and that will fully charge the Archos in ~2 hours. I’ll have to play with it some more to see if there is anything I can do to stretch the recording time.
At any rate, there it is.
