The Pentagon announced TODAY the formation
of a new 500-man elite fighting unit called the
United States Redneck Special Forces (USRSF)
These boys will be dropped off in Iraq and have
been given only the following facts about terrorists :
1. The season opened today.
2. There is no limit.
3. They taste just like chicken.
4. They don’t like beer, pickups, country music or Jesus.
5. They are directly responsible for the death of
Dale Earnhardt, Sr.
The Pentagon expects the problem in Iraq to be over by
NEXT Friday.
So I wanted to hit the discus launch glider sceen at the field. It looked cool to me. I mean you can have a plane to take anywhere and with the right condiditions fly it for days without hooking up your charger. Just you and mother nature battling back and forth. Sounds cool to me. Well ,not to my request I might add, our local hobbyshop ordered in the Electrafly Fling DL. I do not hold the dealer responsible simply b/c he was just trying to surprise me with the kit b/c he knew my enthusiasm about the DLGs. Without any research on hand launch gliders I put the kit under my arm and walked right out the door. Mistake number 1…
Upon arriving home I decided I would do a little research on the “Fling” and other DLGs. To sum up what I read on RC groups about the Fling I will quote the tittle on one thread about the glider… “Fling=Poo” This was really inspiring my build on my new kit so much I had to dive right in. Mistake number 2…
Before I describe the start of the build I can say, without any hessitatation, the nicest thing about the the glider is the coregated white box the kit comes in. So the manual says the first steps are to install the wing servos and join the two wing halves together. I pull out the precovered, all wood, wings. This must have been the first covering job Sing Song has ever done simply because I think my 4 year old nephew could have done better. I spent two hours trying to make the wings tight and bubble free. The covering that Mr. Song used might as well been suran wrap… I take that back. Suran wrap would have done far better for this application. After I got tired of smoothing one side and returning to the other side worse than before, I gave up. I have it pretty good. Well good enough to fly I should say but surely not winning any model of the month trophy at the field. Okay servo instalation. The wires have to be run about 4 inches through the wing. Not far right? Wrong. Sing used so much glue that he completly filled the holes where the servo wires were to be routed. This took about another hour to dremmil out all the glue to make room for the wires not to mention I had to build a extention for my dremmil to reach 4”s into the wing. With wires routed I centered the servos and read the next step which said to CA the servos to the wing’s balsa cut out. Noway! I am not going to take 2 brand new servos and glue them into this piece of shit. I decide to use doublesided tape. I mounted the servos/control horns and hooked up my radio to get the right linkage length. When I threw the aileron back and forth the whole wing skin flexes. I thought to myself maybe there is not need for ailerons I could just fly by flexing the wings. (New Idea patten). With the servos mounted I see it is now 11:45. Cool I can epoxy the wing halves and go to bed before midnight. Mistake numer 3…
Manual reads “Joining the wings halves. This might require a little block sanding” Bullshit. It should have read,” If you have made it thus far without throwing the kit into the garbage where it belongs then prepare yourself for a workout from hell”. So I built a jig for the wings to get the right dihedral and I began to sand and fit the gap.I sanded on this POS until 1:30am. Noticing I was about to sand through the outter wing spars I said enough is enough and concluded this was as close as I was willing to get it. The gap is still sitting at about 1/32”to 1/16” wide, but hey thats what epoxy is for right? So I used 60min when it called for 30min thinking the extra strength might help it hold together for at least 1 toss. Tired, I went to bed. This morning I woke and said to myself, “well I still have some time to kill before work I think I will run downstairs and see how my wing faired through the night”. Mistake number 4…
Upon inspecting the wing, which held together I might add, I noticed one of the ailerons is tweaked and twisted. I have no clue how to fix this other than cut it off and build another aileron. I figure fuck it. I will fly it like it is and use a little trim to split the difference. Hey if it doesn’t fly you are all welcome to go up to the Parkway w/ me as I plan to light it on fire and have a true send off in all Gaelic fashion. I also noticed the front of the wing slipped slightly. This really sucks since I spent so much time sanding and aligning. Looking back now I could have just glued the damn thing together and probably have had less of a off-aligned wing.
I have yet to try to tackle the rest of the build.Unfortunatly I have lost my build drive. Looking at the manual it looks pretty straight forward but having built the wing I have some reservations. So here I sit, out of 100 bucks and tought yet again a little research and listening to your elders sure does go a long way!
On a betten note I have read about some great DLG kits out there in about the same price range. I have been recomended by some other enthusiests the Apogee,DL 50,Gamblers and many more are great kits. They all come to the plate only bringing about 5-6ozs where the “PooPoo DL” comes in at a wopping 12-14ozs. These other kits are true stick and vaccum bag kits but I figure hey winter is knocking on the door and I will have plenty of time to start a longer project. Then again heading in the morning to the “second largest RC show on the east coast” I might find something which strikes my fancy. Maydog-Out.

Dude, you do know he plead guilty, right? Oh, and he was convicted. Here’s the wiki on Michael Vick. I’m sure he still loves fan support though. BTW, it was a white guy driving.
Funny thing about the wiki page is this:

Kind of a fitting shot though. Sure he was good. But what he was best at was showing his ass.

The day finally came, the chicken is gone. I know, that came as quite a blow, but there’s just no easy way to break the news. As promised, here’s the final epic multimedia farewell post. In the final days, this thing was hop’n and hangin quite a bit, so I didn’t even try to post updates. The final day was, in a pair of words, infuriating and messy. Read on fellow bagokolytes.
